PepsiCo-Jordan will construct a dam in Amman that will collect rainwater to recharge underground water reserves for irrigation purposes, after the company signed an agreement with the Jordan Valley Authority (JVA)
The deal will see PepsiCo-Jordan fund and execute the project, which has been valued at US$183,000 and will form part of the company's partnership agreement with the country's Ministry of Water and Irrigation. The project will become PepsiCo-Jordan's third of several initiatives in Jordan falling under its Positive Water Balance Project.
The agreement to build the dam, which will be located in Abu Kataf valley, west of Qasr Al-Harraneh,
was signed at JVA's headquarters in the presence of JVA secretary general Saad Abu Hammour and PepsiCo-Jordan operations director Amjad Ameareh.
"The Abu Kataf water dam is an extension of the projects PepsiCo-Jordan has executed in Wadi Al-Ahmar and Al-Jeezeh, all of which fall under the Positive Water Balance Project that aims to restore 560,000 cu m of water by 2014," Ameareh said.
The 200,000 sqm capacity dam has been scheduled for completion within six months, and will measure nine metres in height and 300 meters in length. An open channel to collect surplus water will also be built.
