Mott MacDonald wins US$1.9 billion infrastructure project

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Musanada to provide construction supervision services for a US$1.9 billion South Shamkha infrastructure project in the UAE.

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) to provide construction supervision services for a US$1.9 billion South Shamkha infrastructure project in the UAE.

Housing development

The project is for three of four lots covering 9.6km? of development which is a mega housing development. It is spread over 39km? which will provide new homes in 43 neighbourhoods. It is situated approximately 12km east of Abu Dhabi International Airport and around 50km from the city of Abu Dhabi. The project is due for completion in 2014.

Construction supervision

Mott MacDonald will provide construction supervision for all infrastructure which includes 80km of road works, a 110km wastewater system and 90km of potable water networks, a power distribution system ? that includes both primary and secondary substations ensuring constant electricity ? a storm water drainage network and provision for a telecommunication network.

The masterplan

Mott MacDonald's project director Peter Hall said: "This is a significant project for the people of Abu Dhabi and will provide infrastructure for the housing of over 130,000 UAE nationals. The masterplan encompasses all aspects of a self sufficient community. An extensive public transportation system including a metro link will connect the development to the capital."
