Plans have been announced for the construction of a US$3.5bn power and water project in Qatar
The plant, known as Facility D, is due to be commissioned by Q2 2017 and will be built by a consortium comprising Qatar Electricity and Water Company QSC, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Foundation and Mitsubishi Corporation as international developer.
Once completed, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) have agreed a 25-year deal, negotiated by law firm Eversheds, to purchase power and water from the 2,520 MW and 136.5 MIGD (million imperial gallons per day) facility.
Tim Armsby, a partner who led the Eversheds advisory team, said, ?This is the first time that reverse osmosis technology will be used in Qatar for water desalination.

The Facility D project represents the second phase of Kahramaa?s additional capacity strategy, which included its US$500mn independent water plant at Ras Abu Fontas.
