The Global Enabling Trade Report 2012, released by the World Economic Forum (WEF), has placed the UAE first regionally and 11th globally in terms of the availability and quality of transport infrastructure
The country was among 17 economies, including the USA, Finland and Belgium, to have 100 per cent of its road network paved and piped.
The UAE was also ranked fourth globally for the quality of its air transport infrastructure, sixth for seaport infrastructure and seventh in transhipment connectivity.
The WEF report highlighted the UAE?s other areas of performance, which included border administration (11th globally), transport and communications infrastructure (18th globally), and business environment (12th globally), while regionally it bagged the top spot in all of these categories.
Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak al Nahyan, minister of public works cited the UAE?s planned spending on infrastructure projects as advancing its global ranking in the report.
